My experience of the downfall of Atlantis is that the source of the destruction was pride in a set of skills that never achieved the goal of supplying an endless source of energy for the continent. Like past nuclear disasters, this one created a chain reaction of opposing sources of energy in a configuration that was no longer containable. In a past life as a Priest-Scientist, I was killed in an accident triggered by vast personal knowledge and pride, not comprehending that the flow of core energies in the material world could not be contained by inadequate resources. Pride and self-aggrandizement coupled with unattainable expectation destroyed a civilization.
