Saints and mystics were seen as a bit crazy by some people. Even though they were respected because of their religion, most people kept their distance. This was because most people couldn’t really understand the deep experiences these saints and mystics discussed using ordinary words. Things like divine fire, gates to heaven, spirits glowing in white, demons, and heavenly voices sounded like nonsense to many, yet others listened in amazement. Mystics described a journey that everyone would take, with all its struggles, but also the peace that would come in the end.
